Gov. Rick Scott has announced that a local teacher has been appointed to the Lake-Sumter State College Board of Trustees, effective Oct. 1.
Jennifer Hooten, of Bushnell, is a teacher at South Sumter High School. She received her bachelor’s degree from St. Leo University. Hooten succeeds Kelly Rice and is appointed for a term ending May 31, 2022.
Hooten is a South Sumter alum, class of 1994 and the mother of two South Sumter alumni. She teaches American government and economics with personal finance. Hooten serves as senior class sponsor and senior trip coordinator.Â
She is the wife of Sumter County Property Appraiser Joey Hooten.
Being reappointed is Emily Lee, of Eustis a retired integration specialist from Community Coalition Alliance. She received her bachelor’s degree from Southern University, and her master’s degree from Mankato State University. Her term runs through May 31, 2022.
The appointments are subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate.
