A 44-year-old Spruce Creek man is being held without bond for pursuing an ex-girlfriend in spite of a court order telling him to leave her alone.
The girlfriend had moved out of her home in Leesburg and into a friend’s home for fear that her ex-boyfriend Joseph Edward Debari would show up at her home, even though the court had ordered him to stay away, according to law enforcement reports.
On Tuesday evening, Debari allegedly called the woman and told her he was intoxicated and that he was 10 minutes away, according to a Leesburg police report. He told her he was on his way to see her, the report indicated. She called police. An officer made contact with Debari on the sidewalk. Debari told the officer he knew he was not allowed to make contact with the woman and that he knew he would likely go to jail. The officer handcuffed Debari and removed him from the scene.
While the officer was preparing paperwork, he noted that Debari “stated the victim will get what’s coming to her, and the two of them will die together.”
Debari was booked at the Lake County Jail.
