Nondescript Megan Leavey drifts through her teenage years.

Suddenly, like a lightning strike, she realizes she may well end up as “a nothing” so she enlists in the U.S. Marines to get her life on track.

Leavey (Kate Mara) squeaks through boot camp yet a senior instructor sees something special in her. He assigns her to the animal troop where she meets the renegade German Shepherd named Rex. Once they pass through a rough beginning, they make an impressive pair as bomb detectors in war-torn Fallujah, Iraq.

Kate Mara stars as Megan Leavey.

In retrospect, I found that the story is more about Rex straightening Megan out than the other way around.

This is a well scripted and well acted film. Rotten Tomatoes gives it an 83 percent rating…one of their highest scores. I rate “Megan Leavey” a solid B and recommended it as a ‘feel good’ flick.

Currently the movie is showing at the Rialto in The Villages.
