Orthopedic surgeon fronts Bob Marley tribute band in fundraiser for TVRH  Auxiliary Foundation

The energy was electric at SeaBreeze Recreation Center on Saturday night. The band John Truth and Reflexx’s benefit concert for The Villages Regional Hospital Auxiliary Foundation, A Tribute to Bob Marley, played for a packed house. Front man for the group, orthopedic surgeon and Director of Total Joint Replacement at the Advanced Orthopedics Institute of the Villages Dr. John Williams, set a high vibration for the concert from the start and the audience responded dancing up front by the stage, on the side aisles and in the back of the room.

Many in the audience were former patients of Dr. Williams. Jim and Minnette Kurth, sporting their ‘Get Hip with Rasta Doc Williams’ T-shirts they received from Dr. Williams when they got a new hip and knee respectively, were seeing Dr. Williams for the first time in concert and really enjoying the experience.

Another former patient Ed Terry had seen Dr. Williams in concert before.

“I wasn’t really familiar with Bob Marley’s music at that time,” said Terry, “but since then I have really gotten interested in Marley’s music.”

Terry thoroughly enjoyed the first concert he attended and gave Saturday night’s concert a big thumbs up.

The last few songs of the night had everyone on their feet. Even those that weren’t dancing in the aisles were swaying along. After the concert, Dr. Williams said that he really felt the energy of the crowd.

“The audience was fantastic,” said Williams. “I think we were really able to spread the message of Marley tonight.”

John Truth and Reflexx formed in Philadelphia in 2005. Dr. Williams, Chairman of Surgery at Central Florida Health, moved to central Florida in 2011. Since that time they have performed several concerts in this area. The rest of the band, still Philadelphia-based, travels to Florida to perform with their bandmate John Truth.

There will be another opportunity to see John Truth and Reflexx. They are booked for a concert at the Savannah Center in May 2018.
