PHILLIES CONTINUE HOT STREAK!
WIN 4TH IN A ROW- NOW AT 6-1

Phillies 28 – Nationals 8
The Phillies took over 1st place by pounding out 34 hits and crossing the plate 28 times.  Carmine D’Agostino hit for the cycle for the Phillies.  Dan McPherson (HR), Dick Rondo, Tony Prettitore and Joe Vital had 4 hits each helping pitcher Gary Arnold pick up the win.  Jack Keesser led the Nationals with a 3 for 3 day.

Brewers 13 – Pirates 6
The Brewers stayed within 1 game of the league leader with a decisive win over the Pirates.  Tom McGann went 4 for 4 and John Niles and sub Tom Bolte were each 3 for 3.  Gary Luck picked up the win for the Brewers.  Bud Sheerin had a HR for the Pirates.

Angels 11 – Giants 8
The Angels handed the Giants their 2nd loss of the season and both teams are now tied for 2nd.  The Angels had two 5 run innings and despite 5 errors, held the Giants to 8 runs.  Scott Marshall paced the Angels with 4 hits.  Rick Stenson picked up the win.  John Ashby and John Iorio were 3 for 3 for the Giants.

Astros 14 – Padres 13
Trailing by 4 going into the bottom of the 7th, the first batter made out.  Three straight errors by the Padres opened the door for the Astros to score 4 runs.  With 2 outs and the bags loaded, another error by the Padres allowed the winning run.  Ray Beaupre pick up the win for the Astros.  Tim Carroll and Mike Labetti had 3 hits each for the Padres.

Royals 18 – Dodgers 17
In a tightly contested game, the Royals found themselves down by 2 in the bottom of the 7th.  David Oatley started the inning with a walk and Jim Greco doubled to put runners on 2nd and 3rd.  Jim Wheeler laced a single driving in the tying runs.  Ed Wyks singled in the winning run for pitcher Bob Marano.  Jim Greco and Ed Wyks had 3 hits for the Royals and Ed also had a HR.  Jim Maher, Rick Poland, Mike Conklin and Pete Castriotta had 3 hits for the Dodgers.  John Meindl added a HR.

Cubs 17 – Cards 11
The Cubs put the game away by putting 5 runs on the board in both the 5th & 6th innings.  Mgr. Stew White had the hot bat with 4 hits.  Bill Begley had a single, double and triple and Larry Tuchscherer had 3 hits for winning pitcher Roger Scott.  Bill Dunkley had 3 hits including a HR for the Cards.

Rockies 14 – Mets 11
The Rockies took a 12 – 7 lead thru 4 and Fred Hughes gyro pitch was enough to hold on to win the game.  Dave Pope, Rich Hopkins and Tom Montgomery had 3 hits for the Rockies.  Ev Arnold and sub Bill Johnson had inside the park HR’s for the Mets.

Braves 15 – Marlins 9
The Braves jumped on the Marlins early and didn’t let up cruising to the win by pitcher Emil Notorantonio.  Chris Holck and Jack Sullivan each went 4 for 4 for the Braves.  Frank Mele had 3 hits for the Marlins.

D-Backs 15 – Reds 7
The D-Backs had an easy time with the Reds, holding them to 3 runs thru 6 innings, while piling on 15 runs.  Frank Murth had 3 hits, while Frank Pierce added a solo HR and Jack McGroarty had a 3 run HR for the D-Backs and winning pitcher Ron Hellier.  Marty Berger had 3 hits for the Reds.
