Estranged husband jailed after allegedly stabbing wife’s boyfriend near groin

An estranged husband was arrested after he allegedly stabbed his wife’s boyfriend in the thigh near the groin during an argument Saturday afternoon.

Gus Vernon Matzke, 38, of Wildwood, was arrested on a charge of aggravated assault following the incident which took place in the driveway of a residence in Webster, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

The victim was transported to a local hospital and had been bleeding profusely, the arrest report indicated.

Matzke had fled the scene in a van but was later arrested by deputies.

Matzke was booked on $10,000 bond at the Sumter County Detention Center.
