A 49-year-old woman was killed when her vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree early Wednesday morning in Marion County.

Susan Michele Ross was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident by Marion County Fire Rescue.

Her 2005 Nissan had been traveling south on SE 180 Ave. Road just south of SE 86 Street when she lost control of the vehicle at 1:48 a.m., according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol. The vehicle traveled across the northbound lane and onto the east shoulder. It then continued south on the east shoulder and struck a concrete culvert causing it to become airborne. The vehicle then struck a tree.

She had not been wearing a seatbelt, the FHP report noted.

Ross previously had worked at MVP Athletic Club and later founded a house-cleaning company. She leaves a teenage daughter, Jessica.
