Ocala driver seriously injured, 81-year-old woman killed in collision with baseball team bus on Interstate 75

An Ocala driver was seriously injured, and a South Carolina woman was killed in a collision Saturday with a baseball team’s bus on Interstate 75 in Pasco County.

A Pioneer tour bus transporting 38 passengers from the Hiram College baseball team in Ohio, was traveling southbound on I-75 in the center lane at 12:33 p.m. when traffic was slowing and merging from three lanes into two lanes, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

The driver of the bus, 69-year-old Shirley Jackson of Ohio, failed to slow down and the bus struck the rear of a 2007 Lexus driven by an 81-year-old woman from Mount Pleasant, S.C. She died at the scene of the accident. She has not been identified pending notification of next of kin. A 59-year-old passenger was airlifted to Bayonet Point Medical Center having suffered critical injuries.

The Lexus was pushed into 2014 Hyundai Sonata driven by Amy C. Chadek, 45, of Ocala. She suffered serious injuries and was transported to Florida Hospital in Wesley Chapel.

The crash closed southbound I-75 until 4:30 p.m.
