A 20-year-old Wildwood man convicted of drop kicking his mother’s cat has landed back behind bars after violating his probation.
Austin Nicholas Crisp is being held without bond at the Lake County Jail.
Crisp had been arrested Dec. 3 by Sumter County sheriff’s deputies on a charge of marijuana possession, which constituted a violation of his probation.
He had been sentenced to a year’s probation, 12 hours of anger management and 30 hours of community service after pleading no contest in May to a charge of animal cruelty.
Crisp’s mother told law enforcement officers in February that her cat had been “breathing heavily as if it were in an extensive amount of pain,” according to an arrest report. The cat also refused to be touched or handled.
Crisp admitted to intentionally drop kicking the cat. He said he had done so to avoid striking his mother with whom he had been arguing over rent money and not helping out around the house.
The cat was taken to an emergency veterinary clinic.
