To the Editor:
Why do people think the Recreation News is an amenity. I have seen it compared to golf courses, pools, tennis courts, etc. The Recreation News is a publication added to the biggest home sales tool in The Villages, The Daily Sun! I would be glad to pay for the recreation guides to be available at the recreation centers, but I am opposed to my amenity fees being used to sell houses for The Villages.
My first step in opposition was to stop my subscription to the newspaper. Why should I pay for The Villages to sell house? The Daily Sun is about 10 percent “NEWS” and 90 percent propaganda to sell houses. Wake up, people. Use your amenity fees to pay for an amenity, not to pay to add the Recreation News to a “for profit” newspaper. Put 25 guides at every rec center and use the $700,000 to put a Putt and Play on the north side, or some other amenity advantageous to all of us. No place else in the world does a newspaper ask all its residents, even those who don’t subscribe, to pay for its increased costs and not pass the costs on to its subscribers. Wake up and quit drinking the Kool-Aid!
