Pair arrested after altercation over burning trash in Oakland Hills

John Fahnestock
Kathleen Kleer

Two people were arrested Saturday after an altercation over burning trash at a home in Oakland Hills.

Sumter County sheriff’s deputies were called to a home at about 6:30 p.m. where 76-year-old John Fahnestock had been in an altercation with another man.

The victim told deputies he was burning trash in the back yard when Fahnestock came outside and confronted him. The victim said Fahnestock was angry and pushed him to the ground, punched him in the head and bit his left hand, according to an arrest report.

Kathleen Kleer, 58, was at the residence in violation of a Nov. 14 order of protection. She said she thought it was no longer valid.

Fahnestock was arrested on a charge of battery and booked at the Sumter County Detention Center. He was released after posting $500 bond.

Kleer was arrested on a charge of contempt of court and was being held without bond.
