Woman who admitted taking Xanax arrested after spotted driving erratically

Heather Chapman

A woman was arrested just before midnight Wednesday after a Marion County deputy watched her swerve across the lines on both sides of her driving lane on U.S. Hwy. 441 in Ocala.

Heather Chapman 25, of Ocala, who was driving a white Chrysler with an expired license tag, also had a delayed response when driving away from an intersection near Interstate 75 after the light turned green, the deputy reported.

After Chapman was stopped in the 2800 block of Hwy. U.S. 441, she couldn’t produce her driver’s license or registration, a sheriff’s report states, adding that the deputy also saw signs of impairment and asked for assistance from another deputy.

When the second deputy arrived and went to the car to speak with Chapman, she produced a driver’s license and an application for a vehicle certificate of title. The deputy reported smelling a faint odor of marijuana coming from inside Chapman’s car and noticed that her eyes were “slightly red and watery.”

When asked if she’d been drinking, Chapman said she had just gotten off work. When asked how long ago she’d gotten off, Chapman responded, “Right now.” And when advised that she couldn’t have just gotten off because she’d been pulled over, Chapman said she left work “30 seconds to one minute ago,” the report says.

When Chapman climbed from her car to perform field sobriety tests, the deputy noted that she had a wet spot in the crotch area and near her buttocks that looked like she had urinated on herself, the report says.

Chapman failed all four sobriety tests and was taken into custody. During a search of her vehicle, deputies found a clear plastic baggie containing a green leafy substance that tested positive for marijuana and another baggie containing four green pills that were identified as Alprazolam 2mg, a schedule 4 drug. And a wooden pipe with residue on it “that smelled like marijuana” and a prescription bottle containing 28 Citalopram 20mg pills were found in the center console.

Chapman, who lives at 121 SE 11th Ave., was transported to the Marion County Jail, where she agreed to provide a urine sample. She also provided two breath samples that both registered .000 blood alcohol content.

Chapman admitted to deputies that she uses the pipe they found inside her car to smoke marijuana. She also told deputies that she had smoked marijuana “a few days ago” and had “taken some Xanax before work.”

Chapman was charged with possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, possession of marijuana not more than 20 grams, possession of drug equipment and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. She was being held on $5,000 bond.
