A woman who was caught driving on a suspended license attempted to convince law enforcement she was forced to take the wheel because the owner of the car was too intoxicated to drive.
Sharon Elaine Young, 34, of Ocala, had been driving a dark blue 2008 four-door Chrysler Sebring bearing a Massachusetts license plate at 10:38 p.m. Monday on U.S. 301 in Wildwood. The vehicle’s taglights were not functioning, prompting a traffic stop, according to an arrest report from the Wildwood Police Department.
A check revealed multiple suspensions of Young’s license, dating back to a drunk driving arrest in 2006, followed by a suspension for failure to pay a traffic fine in 2011. In 2015, Young’s license was canceled indefinitely.
Young told the officer that the vehicle’s registered owner had been drinking and Young wanted her to get home safely, the report said.
Young also is on felony probation through 2019 after a conviction of willful child abuse in Citrus County.
She was booked without bond at the Sumter County Detention Center.
