Woman with weed arrested after caught on radar speeding on County Road 466

Denise Portillo

A woman with marijuana was arrested Christmas Day after she was caught speeding on County Road 466.

Denise Portillo, 34, of Summerfield, at 11:53 p.m. was caught on radar traveling 64 miles per hour in a 40 mph zone, according to an arrest report from the Wildwood Police Department. During the traffic stop, Portillo claimed she was another woman, born in 1964 and the registered owner of the vehicle.

The police officer noticed the odor of cannabis coming from the vehicle and Portillo admitted she had smoked marijuana, but claimed it had been 10 hours earlier. A plastic container with marijuana buds was found in the vehicle. Portillo also admitted she had given police a false name because she knew her license was suspended. A check revealed Portillo’s license has been suspended for five years and she has been classified a habitual offender.

The New Jersey native was arrested on charges of marijuana possession and providing a false name to a law enforcement officer, as well as a felony charge of driving while license suspended. She was also ticketed for speeding.

She was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center and released after posting $5,000 bond.

Portillo had been arrested with marijuana earlier this year after a traffic stop near the entrance to the Village of Bridgeport at Lake Sumter.
