Village of Glenbrook woman sentenced on DUI charge after golf cart crash

Catherine Johnson

A Village of Glenbrook woman has been sentenced on a drunk driving charge after a golf cart crash last year on the multi-modal path in The Villages.

Catherine Johnson, 47, had been at the wheel of a golf cart on Oct. 2 on the multi-modal path along Buena Vista Boulevard when the crash occurred, according to an arrest report from the Florida Highway Patrol. Johnson had been transported by ambulance to Ocala Regional Medical Center, where she was interviewed by a FHP investigator.

When the investigator asked Johnson how much she had been drinking, she responded, “Too much.” A blood test showed she had a blood alcohol level of .310.

When Johnson was told she was being charged with a DUI, she asked, “How can I get a DUI? I wasn’t driving a car, it was a golf cart.”

This past week in Marion County Court, she pleaded no contest in the case. She will lose her driver’s license for one year and has been place on probation for one year. She has been ordered to perform 80 hours of community service, but can buy out of half of her community service at the rate of $10 per hour. She has been ordered to stay away from alcohol and must submit to random screenings.

In 2017, Johnson had been arrested after deliberately ramming her car into a sign at McDonalds in Lady Lake. She was sentenced to anger management.
