Golf courses, entertainment, rec centers reopening in The Villages

Golf courses, recreation centers, and multiple other facilities will reopen in The Villages on Thursday in the wake of Hurricane Idalia, which brought light rains to the area.

Entertainment at the squares will resume on Wednesday evening during normal hours from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Brownwood, Lake Sumter Landing, and Spanish Springs.

According to the district government, administrative offices will reopen on Thursday, joining golf courses and all tennis operations, including shops, academies, and stores.

Recreation centers, with the exception of the Savannah and Bacall, will all open for normal business hours on Thursday, but some may keep pools closed longer as they conduct necessary inspections. Additionally

While schools in Lake County and Marion County will all reopen on Thursday, Sumter County Public Schools will remain closed. The Sumter school district will reopen on Friday, September 1.

That does not include The Villages Charter School, however, which will reopen on Thursday. The school plans to make up its missed day on October 16, according to a statement issued on its website.

Lake-Sutmer State College announced on Wednesday afternoon that it would reopen all campuses on Thursday for regular operating hours, with classes and activities resuming as scheduled. The college says its emergency management team determined that there was “minimal damage” across its campuses from Hurricane Idalia.
