An 83-year-old Wildwood man has died as the result of a collision with a tractor trailer truck Friday evening on U.S. 301 in Sumter County.

Joseph Amaral had been a passenger in a 2016 Nissan Maxima driven by Karen D. Nichols, 64, of Neenah, Wis., according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol. He died at Ocala Regional Medical Center. Nicholas suffered serious injuries and was also transported to ORMC.

Nichols’ vehicle had collided with the trailer of a truck driven by  42-year-old Michael Cain Oldaker of Belleview. Oldaker had been making a U-turn at about 7 p.m. at U.S. 301 and NE 92nd Lane, according to the report. Nichols’ vehicle hit the trailer as it straddled the roadway. Her car then collided with a 2007 Dodge Ram pickup driven by 43-year-old Rebecca Demari of Belleview, which had been parked on the grass along the shoulder of the road.
