A 21-year-old woman sought in the theft of items from Publix at Southern Trace earlier this month was arrested Thursday night with a syringe containing heroin.

Elizabeth Rebbeka Lee Hoffman had been sought after entering the store on Wedgewood Lane on the afternoon of March 7 and leaving with $182.20 in merchandise for which she had not paid, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. Hoffman and a male companion fled the scene, but Hoffman was identified by a license plate and by a witness who knew Hoffman through family ties.

Hoffman was in a vehicle spotted at about 3 a.m. Friday at Circle K gas station on U.S. 301 in Wildwood. In the vehicle with her was 29-year-old Dustin Carter Mayo of Wildwood, who was arrested last year in an unrelated case. You can read more about that HERE.

Mayo was found to be wanted on warrants charging him with failure to appear. He also admitted to a deputy he was in possession of a syringe which was found to contain heroin.

Hoffman was also found to be in possession of a syringe containing heroin. She told a deputy she had started using heroin two to three months ago. As she was being taken into custody Friday, it was discovered that she was also wanted in the Publix theft.

She was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center on $2,000 bond.
