Ocala man arrested after allegedly damaging mailbox

An Ocala man was arrested Wednesday evening after allegedly damaging a mailbox.

A Marion County sheriff’s deputy responded to a residence located at 5870 SW 63 Lane Road in reference to a criminal mischief, according to an MCSO arrest report. Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with the victim who advised she and others were walking to her residence when she observed a white male, later identified as 56-year-old Craig Martin Quidley of Ocala,  wearing a tan jacket and tan slacks walk over to where her mailbox is located, the report stated. The victim stated that Quidley then smacked her mailbox off of the post it was resting on, causing the mailbox door to break off. The wooden post that the mailbox was resting on had pieces of wood that chipped off from the impact of Quidley striking the mailbox.

The victim advised she asked Quidley why he damaged her mailbox, in which he replied “it was like that” and walked back to his residence located at 5910 SW 63 Lane Rd.

The deputy observed Quidley pacing in front of his residence and made contact with him, according to the affidavit. Quidley advised that he was walking on SW 64 Lane Rd. and proceeded to walk into the victim’s driveway. He said he was going to stop for a second and tripped over himself, knocking the mailbox off the post. The deputy knew that there was a long distance from the mailboxes to the driveway and determined that Quidley was not being truthful in reference to this incident. There was $200 in damages from the incident.

Quidley was placed under arrest and transported to Marion County Jail. Bond was posted at $500.
