A 19-year-old Wildwood man is facing charges after he allegedly took items from golf carts parked outside Beef O’Brady’s at Southern Trace shopping plaza.

Brandown Crawford is charged with two counts of petit theft and one count of burglary of a conveyance.

Major Gary Brannen of the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office was on patrol in the parking lot when he observed Crawford at a nearby Dumpster at about 4 p.m. Monday. Crawford is believed to have taken money from a wallet from one golf cart and sunglasses from another golf cart.

Crawford attempted to return the wallet (without the money) to the golf cart, said Lt. Bobby Caruthers of the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

The golf cart owners were in Beef O’Brady’s and unaware that items had been taken from their golf carts.

Crawford was already on probation and awaiting sentencing on a charge of possession of a controlled substance, Caruthers added.
