Village of Glenbrook man tasered after encouraging deputies to shoot him during outburst at his home

Michael Passori

A Village of Glenbrook man was tasered after encouraging deputies to shoot him during an outburst Wednesday at his home.

Sumter County sheriff’s deputies were called at 5:41 p.m. to a home at Riverdale Road after 62-year-old Michael William Passori reportedly made suicidal threats.

When deputies arrived at the home, a woman who had been restrained by Passori, indicated that he needed help and had locked himself in a bedroom.

Deputies repeatedly ordered Passori to come out of the bedroom, which he refused to do. Law enforcement then forcibly entered the bedroom and Passori fled into a bathroom. He was ordered to come out and put up his hands, which Passori refused to do.

Passori then used profanity and encouraged a deputy to shoot him.

It was unclear if Passori was armed, so a deputy tasered him. He was then handcuffed and placed in a patrol car where he was attended to by an ambulance crew who removed the taser’s probes from his body.

It was determined that Passori was wanted on a Marion County warrant charging him with contempt of court.

Once he was transported to the Sumter County Detention Center in Bushnell, Passori told jail staff he had a medical condition. He was transported to Bayfront Health in Dade City where he was medically cleared.

He was booked at the jail where he was being held without bond.
