Woman arrested in family feud over funeral will not face prosecution in the case

Dena Farrell

A woman arrested in November at a hotel in The Villages after a family feud over a funeral will not be prosecuted in the case.

Lady Lake police were called early Nov. 7 to Room 111 at the Comfort Inn & Suites on Avenida Central, where 53-year-old Dena Farrell of Ocala had been arguing with her husband over his mother’s funeral, which had been set for the following morning.

Farrell’s husband said that during the argument, his wife picked up a six-volt plastic flashlight and threw it at him, striking him in the elbow, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department.

Dena Farrell said she and her husband had been arguing throughout the night “over certain family members that would be attending the funeral.”

The arresting officer wrote in the report that Dena Farrell “did not get along with her deceased mother-in-law and some of her husband’s family members and that she had become agitated with her husband.”

Last week in Lake County Court, the prosecutor’s office announced no information would be filed in the case due to “victim/witness issues.” The $1,000 bond that had been posted in the case is being refunded.
