Intoxicated woman who tried to drive with infant arrested in attack on 70-year-old

Aissa Arias

An intoxicated woman with an infant who tried to drive a car on the Fourth of July was arrested in an attack on a 70-year-old who tried to stop her.

Aissa Arias, 27, had been drinking alcoholic beverages throughout the day before she attempted to get behind the wheel of a car with an infant in tow, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. Others at the gathering in Coleman offered to drive Arias wherever she wanted to go. Instead, Arias became agitated and said she “was leaving.”

A 70-year-old woman tried to take the infant from Arias, but was struck in the face. The infant fell to the ground.

Arias was arrested on two counts of battery and a charge of cruelty to a child. She was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center, where she was initially held without bond.
