Timothy Tierney

Timothy J. Tierney, of The Villages passed away in his sleep after a brief but courageous battle with a reoccurrence of cancer on Thursday September 10, 2020 at the age of 74.

Tim grew up in Levittown, NY and attended the United States Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, NY graduating in 1969 with a degree in Engineering.

He was a retired Lt. Col. with the CA Air National Guard and then USAF, being activated to service after 9/11/2001. With over 30 years of service. Tim’s civilian career was with the Department of Justice as a Drug Enforcement Administration Agent, with over 30 years of service. His last assignment was Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the Aviation Division, Ft. Worth, TX.

Tim and wife Ellen retired to The Villages in 2010 where they became active members of the community in many different clubs and the American Legion. Tim held the offices of Post Commander twice at Veterans Memorial Post 347, Lady Lake, as the 6th District Commander and the Eastern Area Commander. He was well known and loved through out the American Legion in the state of Florida.

Tim was predeceased by parents Thomas and Eleanor and older brother Thomas.

He is survived by wife Ellen, sons Thomas (Angela), Grand Prairie, TX, Michael (Stephanie), Chandler, AZ, Kenneth (Lindsey), Chandler, AZ. Brother William (Helen), Denver, CO, Sisters Susan Fontecchio, Randolph, MA, Patricia Campanelli (Richard), Langhorne, PA, Patricia Tierney, Gilbert, AZ. Best friend more like a brother Jerry Sampson (Denise), Levittown, NY, 6 grandchildren and many cousins, nieces and nephews and friends.

Funeral Services, with full military honors, by the American Legion Post 347 honor guard will be at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL Friday September 18th at 10:30 AM. Masks are required.

No flowers please. Donations can be made to the American Legion Post 347 (P.O. Box 1534, Lady Lake, FL 32158), The Freedom Memorial Plaza at Florida National Cemetery (JVSC.US), or a charity of your choice in Tim’s name.

Tim was loved by many and will always be remembered for being the wind beneath our wings.
