A 73-year-old Villager was arrested this weekend after he allegedly put a gun to his wife’s head after she accused him of cheating.

The incident took place in the early morning hours Saturday at a residence in the 900 block of Aloha Way on the Historic Side of The Villages.

John F. Conlin came home from a bar and his wife began questioning him about an alleged affair, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department. The couple had reportedly been arguing for weeks over Conlin’s alleged affair, the arrest report indicated.

During the argument, Conlin told his wife he was going to shoot her in the head and proceeded to pull a 9mm handgun from underneath the bed. He slammed his wife against a wall, held her by the throat and put the gun to her head, the arrest report said.

The woman told police she believed “by the look in his eyes he would actually pull the trigger and shoot.”

He then threw the gun on the floor and continued yelling at his wife. He eventually went to bed. After he was asleep, the woman got in her car and drove to a nearby service station. A friend called law enforcement.

The wife led police to their residence where officers woke up Conlin and arrested him. The gun was found next to him.

He was booked on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and domestic battery at the Lake County Jail.

He was later released after posting $17,000 bond.
