Daniel Lewis Eaves was a passenger in a vehicle which was southbound on U.S.  301 at County Road 104. The police officer observed that the car had no operable tag lights over the license plate and initiated a traffic stop.

After obtaining the identification information from the driver and his passenger, the officer called for backup from a Sumter County sheriff’s deputy who had a K-9 trained to detect drugs. That K-9, Diesel, alerted on Eaves’ wallet which he had left on the front seat of the vehicle. The officer examined the wallet and recovered a green leafy substance which tested positive for marijuana.
