Apparently abandoned home in The Villages subject of public hearing

An apparently abandoned home in The Villages was the subject of a public hearing.

The Community Development District 2 Board of Supervisors held the public hearing Friday regarding the property at 1630 Navidad St. in the Village of Alhambra.

The property is owned by Doris Vance, whose husband Morgan Vance died at age 77 on Jan. 6, 2004.

A complaint about overgrown grass and weeds was received on June 20 and verified the following day.

The utilities at the home have been turned off. Community Standards contacted the mortgage holder, Mortgage Electronic Registrations Inc., but was told no information would be released without a loan number or a Social Security number. Community Standards located a loan number and then turned to Specialized Servicing, the property preservation department for MERS. Specialized Servicing said a work order would be submitted, but a check of the property showed the work had not been performed.

The board found the property in violation of deed compliance and voted to impose a series of fines. It also agreed to authorize the district to maintain the property twice a month in the summer and once a month in the winter. A $250 fine will be imposed each time the property is maintained.
