Village of Rio Ponderosa man arrested after attempting to load up on chips and beer at Wal-Mart

James Wallace

A Village of Rio Ponderosa man was arrested Tuesday after allegedly attempting to load up on chips and beer at Wal-Mart.

James Wallace, 53, of 261 Montoya Drive, went into the Summerfield store and attempted to wheel out a shopping cart loaded with four cases of beer, two bags of chips, two clothing items, four bungee cords and four tarps, according to an arrest report from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. The merchandise was valued at $215.79.

During the course of the investigation, a deputy determined that Wallace has had five prior convictions for theft. He was also implicated in a previous theft at the same Wal-Mart.

He refused to speak to the deputy and listed his girlfriend in The Villages as his next-of-kin.

He was booked at the Marion County Jail.
