Carson coming to The Villages on Monday, but Trump still has edge with Villagers

Republican presidential frontrunner Ben Carson is coming to The Villages on Monday afternoon, but it appears Donald Trump still has the edge with Villagers.

Carson will be signing copies of his new book, A More Perfect Union: What We the People Can Do to Reclaim Our Constitutional Liberties, at 4:30 p.m. Monday at Barnes & Noble at Lake Sumter Landing.

But in a Villages-News.com poll taken this past week, Trump won the backing of 38 percent of respondents. Carson followed with 32 percent. U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio came in third with 21 percent and former Gov. Jeb Bush trailed with 9 percent.

National polls and polls in the all-important-caucus state of Iowa now put Carson in the lead.

Barnes & Noble will open its doors at 7 a.m. Monday to distribute wristbands for the Ben Carson event. Wristbands will be distributed in color groups and the first group will begin to line up at 2:30 p.m, the second group at 3 p.m., and the last group will line up at 3:30 p.m.

Carson is essentially putting his campaign on hold in favor of his Florida book tour. He kicked off the book tour on Sunday in the Republican-rich Panhandle.

After signing books in The Villages, the pediatric neurosurgeon will head to an 8 p.m. book signing in Kissimmee.

Carson drew a huge crowd when he visited the Barnes & Noble at Lake Sumter Landing in 2014.
