John Richard Sullivan, 79, The Villages, FL, passed away on Wednesday, July 5, 2017, after a brief battle with cancer. He was a truly unique individual with a stinging wit and a great sense of humor.
John was born in Palmer, MA to the late William C. and Ann (Sullivan) Sullivan. He served in the United States Air Force from 1955 to 1959, serving part of that time in Germany. It was during his time in the service he developed a love for travel, which he continued to do throughout his life; Ireland being one of his favorite destinations.
John earned an Associate’s Degree from Fisher Junior College, Boston, MA; a Bachelor’s Degree from Central New England College, Worcester, MA; and a Master’s of Business Administration in 1992 from Nichols College, Dudley, MA.
A self-made man, John started as a tool maker and worked his way into management, eventually becoming the Vice President/General Manager for LFE Corp. of Clinton, MA; Senior Vice President/COO for SencorpWhite of Hyannis, MA.
Following his retirement from SencorpWhite, John moved to The Villages where he made an impression on the Village of Sanibel community and developed many close friendships. He enjoyed golf, scoring a hole-in-one on January 18, 2016; pickle ball, fishing, and cribbage. He was also an avid reader.
He was predeceased by his parents and brother, Daniel, of whom he was enormously proud. He was also predeceased by the love of his life, Janice K. (Mosher) Sullivan, his wife of 41 years in 2003.
John leaves his loving daughter, Colleen A. (Sullivan) Campbell, his pride and joy; and her husband David, a son to him, of Herndon, VA. He also leaves his two grandchildren, Caitlin and Patrick; to both of whom he was enormously proud and endlessly devoted.
Graveside services will be held for John in the New St. William Cemetery, in Ware, MA. The date has not yet been determined.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to your local Make-A-Wish Foundation, the favorite charity of both John and his wife, Janice.
