A driver without a license was jailed after he attempted to avoid arrest by giving a deputy his brother’s name.

Michael D. Murnaghan, 36, of Wildwood was pulled over at 10:20 p.m. Wednesday on County Road 466A at Powell Road after a deputy noticed an inoperable taillight on his van, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

Murnaghan, who does not have a driver’s license, gave the deputy his brother’s name, the arrest report indicated. Murnaghan later admitted to the deputy what he had done and said he was afraid of going to jail.

He was arrested on charges of operating a motor vehicle without a license and giving false information to a law enforcement officer.

He was booked on $1,500 bond at the Sumter County Detention Center.
