Village of LaBelle man arrested after marijuana found in his vehicle

A 57-year-old Village of LaBelle man was arrested Sunday night after marijuana was discovered in his vehicle.

James J. Boles had been driving a Toyota utility vehicle at 11:54 p.m. eastbound on State Road 44 when he was captured on radar driving 71 miles per hour in a 55 mph zone, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. During a traffic stop, the deputy detected the smell of marijuana coming from Boles’ vehicle. A box containing marijuana was discovered in the vehicle along with a pipe used for smoking marijuana.

Boles was arrested on misdemeanor charges of marijuana possession and drug equipment and was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center. Bond was set at $2,000.
