Gas leak disrupts traffic near busy Villages intersection in Wildwood

An early afternoon gas leak forced officials to close a portion of a busy Villages roadway road to traffic on Monday.

A crew that was preparing to install a new line was drilling under County Road 462 in Wildwood when they struck the TECO Energy gas line and caused a leak. The incident happened near the busy intersection of County Road 466A, not far from The Villages Sumter County Service Center.

Several units from The Villages Public Safety Department responded to the leak at about 12:40 p.m. The turn lane on County Road 462 was temporarily closed until a crew from TECO could arrive and shut off the gas running through the line.
