A 74-year-old Village of Mallory Square man was arrested early Thursday morning after an altercation sent a woman to The Villages Regional Hospital.

A Sumter County sheriff’s deputy went to the hospital to investigate a woman’s claim that Robert Henry Pezold had struck her in the breast with a closed fist at a residence on Katherine Place.

She said she had knocked over a couple of wine glasses in the hallway and Pezold came out of his bedroom looking angry, according to an arrest report from the sheriff’s office. As he was trying to close the door, she tried to hold the door open in an attempt to talk to him. He then punched her in the breast, the report indicated.

He told a deputy that she had poked a finger at him and tried to push her way into his bedroom, the report indicated.

Pezold was arrested on a charge of battery and booked without bond at the Sumter County Detention Center.
