Barricades are now up at both ends of the Pine Ridge Dairy Road as The Villages is now only a month away from a target date of launching construction on the Villages of Fruitland Park.
The landscape along County Road 466A will change dramatically in the months ahead when construction begins on 2,000 new homes in what will be the newest section of The Villages.
The barricades were set up by Lake County which had responsibility for the dirt road which was open to public access. In addition to the barricades, The Villages has put up signs warning people to stay off the construction site.
Pine Ridge Dairy Road intersects with County Road 466A directly across from the intersection with Microracetrack Road.
The Villages has been issued a permit to start grading on some retention ponds.
“What their schedule is I am not sure,” said Fruitland Park Community Development Director Charlie Rector.
However, he said that the “target date” The Villages had set for “moving dirt” is May 1.
The Villages could begin selling the new homes as early as this fall.
