Lake County cracking down on synthetic drugs

The Lake County Board of County Commissioners, in conjunction with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, is seeking to ensure all business owners in Lake County are aware that selling synthetic marijuana, bath salts and other similar products is illegal as of May 1.

The Lake County Board of County Commissioners recently adopted an ordinance applying to properties and businesses that prohibits selling, giving away or possessing synthetic drugs.

Lake County deputies will be visiting local businesses and handing out information flyers alerting them of the new law, and informing them that vendors and property owners found in violation of the ordinance may be held civilly and criminally responsible. Violators will face a $500 fine for the first offense and $1,000 for additional offenses within five years.

For more information, contact Lake County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Tom Willis at 352-429-2290.
