Sandi Uram was first in the pool Friday morning at the grand opening of the Antrim Dells Recreation Center near Brownwood.

She walked back and forth across the pool as the Villages Cheerleaders led the group in chants to celebrate the center in one of The Villages newest neighborhoods.

“I like the two-car garages and the floor space,” said Uram, originally from Rockford, Ill., who moved into her new home last month.

A small neighborhood of courtyard villas near the end of Buena Vista Avenue, Antrim Hills might seem like a long golf-cart ride to those living farther north, but convenience is one of the things Sharon Mills said she likes most about her new home.

“Convenience and the unique style of the homes,” said Mills, who will close on her home with fiance Jim Zimmerman at the end of the month. “It is a nice little private community, walking distance to Brownwood and soon to Publix.”

Uram didn’t even wait for the official opening before jumping into the clear blue water.

As other residents joined the cheerleaders and recreation department employees at one end of the pool to cut the commemorative ribbon, Uram paused her exercise routine and watched.
