A 54-year-old man who told a Sumter County sheriff’s deputy he had gone binge drinking and wrecked his truck, is facing felony charges of assaulting EMTs who tried to treat him.

Clyde Elbert Lovett of Bushnell was arrested Monday night at his home.

A deputy found Lovett’s pickup truck laying on its side on West County Road 48.

The deputy went to Lovett’s home and found him sitting on the front porch, apparently injured.

However, when EMTs arrived Lovett tried to punch them several times.

Lovett was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center on $15,000 bond.
