A home health care worker has been ordered to return a Villager’s car within 30 days.
Sheila W. Krebs, 59, of Micanopy, was sentenced Tuesday in Sumter County Court on charges of grand theft and exploitation of the elderly.
She had been accused of transferring into her name the title of a vehicle owned by an 81-year-old Alzheimer’s patient who resides in the San Antonio Villas. On March 26, Krebs drove the Alzheimer’s patient to the Sumter County Tax Collector’s Office where a duplicate title for the 2011 Chevy Equinox was acquired and signed over to Krebs who then took possession of the vehicle.
At the time, the Alzheimer’s patient’s daughter had power of attorney for her father’s care. Krebs had been his caretaker for about eight months.
The Equinox had a Blue Book value between $11,000 and $17,000 at the time it was taken.
She has been sentenced to three years probation, fined $750 and ordered to pay court costs. She has also been ordered to perform 40 hours of community service.
On July 20, Krebs’ home in Micanopy burned to the ground. She and her daughter had sought assistance from Villagers in the aftermath of the fire.
In 2011, she had been arrested in Marion County on an exploitation charge.
