A 42-year-old Leesburg man is free on bond following his arrest after he allegedly “returned” $300 worth of paint at Lowe’s in Summerfield.

Shawn Timothy Byrne turned himself in Monday at the Lake County Jail. He had been wanted on an arrest warrant charging him grand retail theft.

He and another man had gone July 19 to Lowe’s in Leesburg and selected two five-gallon buckets of paint and put them in a shopping cart, according to the arrest warrant. While Byrne distracted a clerk, the other man pushed the cart with the paint out of the garden center. An hour later, they took the paint to Lowe’s in Summerfield for a refund.

Byrne was booked at the Lake County Jail and released after posting $2,000.
