Cars collide at notorious cutoff

Two cars collided shortly before 1 p.m. Sunday at a notorious cutoff for drivers hoping to avoid traffic in The Villages.

The collision occurred at the intersection of Lake Ella Road and Micro Racetrack Road.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office and Lake County Fire Rescue responded to the scene.

Traffic was backed up in the area as a result of the accident.

The rural roadways have become a favorite cutoff for drivers. Traffic has surged on these roads thanks to the continued growth in The Villages. Drivers use Rolling Acres Road as part of a route to get from County Road 466 to County Road 466A. Rolling Acres Road has been declared a “failing” road and Lake County has indicated it has no money to fix it.
