A 50-year-old Wildwood man was arrested with marijuana after a K-9 alerted on a vehicle in which he had been riding as a passenger.

A Sumter County sheriff’s deputy spotted Roderick Virgil Williams riding without a seatbelt in a silver Buick shortly after 8 a.m. Wednesday on State Road 35 in Wildwood, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. Williams appeared “nervous,” the report indicated.

A K-9 unit arrived on the scene and the dog alerted on the vehicle. A yellow Dollar General bag which had been on Williams lap was found to contain marijuana.

“Mr. Williams stated he is a user of Marijuana for many years and the Marijuana found in the car was his. Mr. Williams continued to state he is not a drug dealer and the Marijuana found is for personal use only,” the deputy wrote in the arrest report.

He was arrested on a charge of marijuana possession and booked at the Sumter County Detention Center. Bond was set at $1,000. He was issued a written warning for the seatbelt infraction.
