Darrell’s Diner developer wins approval from Lady Lake Commission

A developer won another round in his plan to construct a building that would be home to a new Darrell’s Diner next to the Historic Side of The Villages.

The home of the new eatery, Teague Plaza, would include six apartments upstairs and the diner on the lower floor, and would be built behind homes on Tarrson Boulevard on the Historic Side of The Villages. Teague Plaza will be located on 1.63 acres at 1124 Teague Trail, which is also known as County Road 25.

Lawrence Breech of T-Lynne Properties appeared Monday night before the Lady Lake Commission, seeking approval of a landscaping plan for the property. It provided an opportunity for Commissioner Ruth Kussard to directly question Breech.

He disclosed that the diner’s hours of operations would be 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

He also said that the upstairs apartments would not have balconies.

Kussard had expressed concerns that the Villagers living near the building would lose their privacy due to the apartments looming over their homes.

She also pressed Breech on the possibility of larger trees that could provide for greater privacy.

The Darrell’s Diner plan moved forward on an unanimous vote.

Mayor Jim Richards pointed out that final approval for the project would come at a future meeting.
