Some relief could be coming to notoriously backed-up intersection

Commissioner Dan Vincent

Some relief could be coming to the notoriously backed-up intersection at Rolling Acres Road and County Road 466.

Lady Lake Commissioner Dan Vincent said he spoke with Lake County Commissioner Tim Sullivan at a recent League of Cities meeting and Sullivan updated him on a change coming to the light at the intersection.

Traffic frequently backs up in the left turn lane of eastbound County Road 466. Even out of snowbird season, the traffic can be seen backed up all the way to the Atria assisted living facility on County Road 466, Lady Lake Commissioner Ruth Kussard recently noted.

Cars travel in the left turn lane on eastbound County Road 466 at Rolling Acres Road.

Vincent said the county will be adjusting the traffic signal to lengthen the time the green arrow left-turn light is illuminated, allowing more vehicles to make that left turn onto Rolling Acres Road. He said the change would likely come after the first of the year, according to what he was told by Sullivan.

Vincent has been outspoken about what he has called “broken promises” from the county about improvements on Rolling Acres Road, which has been declared a “failing road.” It is overburdened with traffic all the way from U.S. Hwy. 27/441 to Lake Ella Road.

Vincent recently declared he would be opposed to the proposed construction of a new 7-Eleven at the intersection of Rolling Acres Road and County Road 466. That is scheduled to go before the Lady Lake Commission in January.
