Competency evaluation ordered for Ohio man charged with punching 68-year-old Villager

Collin Hull

A competency evaluation has been ordered for an Ohio man charged with punching a 68-year-old Villager.

Collin Nathaniel Hull, 27, of Columbus, Ohio has been held at the Sumter County Detention Center since his Nov. 28 arrest.

Sumter County sheriff’s deputies had been called that morning to a home on Cervantes Place in the Village of Hacienda, where they found a woman “visibly shaken and crying.” She had suffered a cut the size of a quarter between her left eye and temple. The cut was showing signs of swelling and bruising, according to the arrest report.

The woman had been alerted that Hull had been posting “random ramblings” on Twitter, something he had been doing in March when he was diagnosed with bi-polar disorder.

The woman went into Hull’s room and asked to see his phone. After looking at his phone, she asked Hull “if he needed to go see a doctor for help,” the report said.

Hull looked at the woman and without saying anything, punched her in the face. He then left the residence.

A deputy found Hull walking on Morse Boulevard near San Juan Drive. Hull told the deputy he “was going to raise the dead.” Hull admitted punching the woman and said he wished she was dead. He was arrested on a charge of domestic battery on a person over the age of 65.

Since Hull’s arrest, a competency evaluation has been ordered, according to Sumter County Court records.

Hull’s attorney, Mark Timothy Conan, has filed a motion seeking a reduction in his client’s $40,000 bond. A bond hearing is set for Jan. 16 before Judge William Hallman.
