Villager remains in ICU week after crash that shut down Rolling Acres Road

A Villager remains in an intensive care unit a week after a three-vehicle crash that shut down traffic for several hours on Rolling Acres Road.

Richard Arlen Barlett, 80, of the Village of Caroline, remains a patient in the ICU at Ocala Regional Medical as a result of the crash which occurred at 1:30 p.m. Jan. 17 about a half mile south of County Road 466.

A Florida Highway Patrol investigator was at the scene of the crash on Rolling Acres Road.

Bartlett had been at the wheel of a 2016 Toyota Corolla traveling south when his vehicle crossed the centerline and collided with a trailer being towed by a northbound truck, according to an accident report released Thursday by the Florida Highway Patrol.

That collision caused Bartlett’s car to spin, become airborne and collide with a 2015 Lexus SUV driven by 70-year-old Christine Marie Boetticher of the Village of Dunedin. She had also been northbound on Rolling Acres Road.

The trooper investigating the accident has been unable to interview Bartlett due to the severity of his injuries, the report indicated.

Richard Bartlett, of The Villages, the driver of this overturned vehicle, was airlifted to Ocala Regional Medical Center.

Boetticher was transported by ambulance to The Villages Regional Hospital.

The driver of the truck towing the trailer, 28-year-old Daniel Eugene Lee Powell, escaped injury. Two passengers in his truck were also uninjured.

Lady Lake officials for years have voiced concerns about Rolling Acres Road.
