Villagers’ adult son tracked down in temper tantrum at Publix liquor store

Gavin Bourke

An anonymous tip resulted in the arrest of the adult son of a Villages couple after a temper tantrum that shattered a glass door at a Publix liquor store.

The tip led to the arrest of 28-year-old Gavin Bourke on Friday afternoon at the home of his parents at 2605 Day Lily Run in the Village of Duval.

The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office had issued a bulletin with surveillance images from the Publix liquor store at Colony Plaza. The suspect entered the store shortly after 6 p.m. May 1 and attempted to purchase alcohol, but he did not have any identification.

The suspect was captured on video surveillance before shattering the glass door at the Publix liquor store in the Colony Plaza.

After the clerk refused to sell it to him, he punched the glass on the automatic door and shattered it as he was exiting the store. He then left in a golf cart headed toward County Road 466A.

The Goshen, N.Y. native was arrested on a charge of criminal damage to property. He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center and released after posting $2,000 bond.
