A 23-year-old man who blew nearly three times the legal limit has been sentenced in a drunk driving case.

Monty Tyler Tschappat, 23, of Wildwood, had been arrested Sept. 30 after he was stopped for speeding by a Sumter County sheriff’s deputy on State Road Road 44 near Powell Road. He failed field sobriety exercises and provided breath samples that registered .232 and .216 blood alcohol content.

“You’re really going to ruin my life over two beers?” Tschappat asked the deputy as he was being placed in the back of a patrol car.

Tschappat pleaded no contest to the DUI charge on Oct. 26 in Sumter County Court.

He will lose his driver’s license for six months and has been placed on probation for one year.

He will have an ignition interlock device placed on his vehicle and has been ordered to perform 50 hours of community service.
