Four charged in death of motorcyclist who was shot in April during Bikefest in Leesburg

Four people have been charged in connection with the death of a motorcyclist who was shot in April during Bikefest in Leesburg.

David Donovan, 41, of Homosassa, died over the weekend at an area hospital after he was shot April 29 at a Circle K service station at 3300 W. Main St., about two miles from the location of the venue. 

“This morning a coordinated, statewide, multi-agency operation was conducted to apprehend four individuals wanted in connection with the April 29th shooting-homicide,” said Lt. Joe Iozzi of the Leesburg Police Department.

Four arrest warrants for conspiracy to commit murder and kidnapping were acquired by Leesburg detectives for the arrest of:

• 32-year-old Gregory Alan Umphress;

• Marc Edward Knotts, 48, who was also wounded that night, but had been wearing a ballistic vest.

• 35-year-old Jesus Alberto Marrero;

• 37-year-old Miquel Angel Torres, who is also facing a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Knotts and Marrero have been taken into custody. The search continues for Umphress and Torres.

The operation involved the Leesburg Police Department, Federal Bureau of Investigations, Ocala Police Department, Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Volusia County Sheriff’s Office and Brevard County Sheriff’s Office.
