Leesburg Regional Medical Center opens temporary walkway during construction

Leesburg Regional Medical Center has opened a new temporary walkway that will enable patients and family members to easily and quickly access the Emergency Department during construction. Emergency Department access will still be available through the main hospital entrance, but the new walkway provides a faster alternative.

The Emergency Department expansion project at LRMC is on schedule to be completed in the spring of 2018. The hospital’s Emergency Department sees nearly 47,000 people each year and that number is growing as the community grows.

A temporary walkway has been set up during construction at Leesburg Regional Medical Center.

The $29 million expansion will nearly double the size of the current emergency room, adding 24 patient beds along with a Fast Track unit that can accommodate pediatric patients, three to four trauma-sized rooms for critical care treatment, a spacious waiting room and atrium-like lobby.

“We are excited to be able to significantly increase our Emergency Department capacity in order to better serve the citizens of Lake and Sumter counties who count on LRMC for excellent quality emergency services,” said Don Henderson, president and CEO of Central Florida Health, the not-for-profit parent company of LRMC. “This project will significantly increase our ability to build on our promise to the community to provide high-quality care and service in a modern environment that promotes healing and restoration. We are thankful to the communities we serve for their continued support.”
